PF Calculator FY 2026-27 Updated
Type your basic salary. See what comes out of your pay for PF every month, how your employer’s share is split between your account and the pension scheme, and where your balance could be when you retire. A ₹40,000 basic puts ₹3,917 a month into your PF, and about ₹57.86L could be there at 58.

- Works with your current balance
- New ₹25,000 ceiling
Taken from your salary every month
₹3,000
Your basic is over the ₹25,000 PF ceiling, so PF is worked on ₹25,000, not on ₹40,000.

01 Every month
Where Your PF Goes Every Month
You pay 12% of your basic and your employer pays 12% too. On a ₹20,000 basic that is ₹2,400 each, and ₹734 + ₹1,666 of your employer’s ₹2,400 reaches you as PF and pension.
- You, 12% ₹2,400
- Employer, into your PF ₹734
- Employer, into pension (EPS) ₹1,666
Read the full explanation
PF is 12% of basic plus dearness allowance (DA), taken from your salary, with the same amount added by your employer. HRA, special allowance and bonus are not part of it, unless your employer has chosen a wider definition of wages.
Your employer’s ₹2,400 is not all in your PF account. 8.33% of your wages, up to the PF ceiling, goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), here ₹1,666. The other ₹734 (3.67% of wages) goes into your PF account, and so does all of yours. EPS does not earn interest: it pays a pension from the age of 58.
So the money that builds your PF balance is ₹2,400 + ₹734 = ₹3,134 a month, even though ₹4,800 leaves your CTC for PF.
02 The ceiling
The ₹25,000 PF Ceiling
PF is worked on basic up to ₹25,000 a month. The ceiling was ₹15,000 until 17 September 2026. If your basic is ₹40,000, PF rose from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000 a month.
| Basic | You | Employer into PF | Employer into pension | Into your PF |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹10,000 | ₹1,200 | ₹367 | ₹833 | ₹1,567 |
| ₹15,000 | ₹1,800 | ₹550 | ₹1,250 | ₹2,350 |
| ₹20,000 | ₹2,400 | ₹734 | ₹1,666 | ₹3,134 |
| ₹25,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹917 | ₹2,083 | ₹3,917 |
| ₹30,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹917 | ₹2,083 | ₹3,917 |
| ₹40,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹917 | ₹2,083 | ₹3,917 |
| ₹60,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹917 | ₹2,083 | ₹3,917 |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹917 | ₹2,083 | ₹3,917 |
Shaded rows are held at the ₹25,000 ceiling. PF on the ceiling, as in the calculator’s default.
Read the full explanation
If your employer works PF on the ceiling, a basic above ₹25,000 no longer adds to your PF: 12% of ₹25,000 is ₹3,000, and that is both your share and your employer’s. The ceiling rose by ₹10,000, so on a basic of ₹40,000 your deduction rose by ₹1,200 a month, and so did your employer’s.
That ₹1,200 is not lost: it goes into your PF account, but it does reduce your take-home pay.
You and your employer can jointly ask EPFO to work PF on your full basic instead. Then PF is 12% of all of it, and the pension share stays worked on the ceiling only. Choose “Full basic” under More options to see it.
03 How it grows
How Your PF Grows To Retirement
Starting at 28 on a ₹40,000 basic, your PF could be ₹57.86L at 58. About 76% of it would be interest.
- You ₹10.8L
- Employer ₹3.3L
- Interest ₹43.76L
Read the full explanation
This example saves ₹3,917 a month (your ₹3,000 and your employer’s ₹917) and assumes pay rises 6% a year, interest of 8.25% and no money in the account today.
Of the ₹57,85,998: ₹10,80,000 is yours, ₹3,30,120 is your employer’s and ₹43,75,878 is interest. Pay above ₹25,000 stops raising PF while it is worked on the ceiling, so the contribution stays at ₹3,917 a month after your basic passes it.
The projection is an estimate. It assumes the ceiling stays where it is now, and the interest rate stays the same all the way to retirement, which it will not.
04 The interest rate
What The PF Interest Rate Is Worth
The latest declared rate is 8.25% (for 2025-26). Over 30 years, 7% instead would leave ₹12.04L less in the account.

EPFO declares the rate once a year, after the financial year ends. The 8.25% is the rate for 2025-26, the latest one declared, and there is no rate yet for the current year. The calculator uses it and lets you change it.
Interest is worked out every month on that month’s running balance, at a twelfth of the yearly rate, and is added to your account at the end of the year. That is how this projection works too.
The comparison is for the same person as the picture above: age 28, ₹40,000 basic, retiring at 58. Each line changes only the rate.
05 Voluntary PF
What A Little Voluntary PF Adds
Voluntary PF (VPF) puts extra from your own pay into the same account at the same interest. 10% of a ₹40,000 basic is ₹4,000 a month and adds ₹1.12Cr by 58.
PF balance at 58, by voluntary PF
Read the full explanation
VPF is a percentage of your basic that you choose, up to the whole of it. It is deducted from your pay along with PF, earns the same interest, and your employer adds nothing to it.
The interest on your own contributions is tax free only up to ₹2,50,000 a year (PF and VPF together). Above that, the interest on the extra is taxed as income. The calculator warns you if your plan passes it.
06 PF and ESI
PF And ESI Together
If your gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less, ESI is taken beside PF. On ₹20,000 gross, ESI is ₹150 from you and ₹650 from your employer.
PF, 12% of a ₹10,000 basic₹1,200employer ₹1,200
ESI, 0.75% of ₹20,000 gross₹150employer ₹650
Read the full explanation
ESI is health insurance for lower-paid employees, and it is worked on gross pay, not on basic. Above ₹21,000 a month it does not apply at all. PF has no such limit: it is worked on basic.
On the example payslip, PF is ₹1,200 from a ₹10,000 basic and ESI is ₹150, so ₹1,350 a month comes out of your pay for both.
Enter your gross pay under More options to see ESI beside your PF.

A basic of ₹25,000 or more gives the same figures because PF is worked on the ceiling. Retiring at 58, pay rising 6% a year, interest 8.25%, PF on the ceiling, no balance today. An estimate.
08 Questions
Questions About PF
How is PF calculated on salary?
PF is 12% of your basic plus DA, taken from your pay, with the same 12% added by your employer. On a ₹20,000 basic that is ₹2,400 from you and ₹2,400 from your employer every month.
What is the PF formula?
Your PF = 12% × (basic + DA), up to the wage ceiling of ₹25,000 a month unless you and your employer have chosen full basic. Your employer’s share is another 12% of the same wages: 8.33% of it (up to the ceiling) goes to the pension scheme and 3.67% into your PF.
How much PF is deducted from my salary?
12% of your basic, up to ₹25,000 of it: at most ₹3,000 a month if PF is on the ceiling. On a ₹40,000 basic that is ₹3,000; before 17 September 2026, with the ₹15,000 ceiling, it was ₹1,800.
What is the current PF interest rate?
8.25% a year, the rate declared for 2025-26. It is worked on each month’s balance and credited at the end of the year. The rate for the current year has not been declared yet.
How much PF will I have at retirement?
It depends on your pay, your age and the interest. A ₹40,000 basic from age 28 to 58, with pay rising 6% a year and 8.25% interest, ends at about ₹57,85,998. Use the calculator for your own figures.
Can I add my current PF balance to the calculator?
Yes. Type what is in your account today under “PF balance today”. It is carried forward and earns interest from the first month, so the result is the balance you could have at retirement, not only what you add from now.
Does the employer’s whole 12% go to my PF account?
No. 8.33% of your wages, up to the ceiling, goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme, here at most ₹2,083 a month. Only the rest (3.67%) goes to your PF account. The pension share earns no interest and pays a pension from 58.
What is VPF?
Voluntary provident fund: extra PF you choose to pay from your own salary, up to all of your basic, into the same account at the same interest. Your employer adds nothing. Interest on your own PF and VPF together is tax free only up to ₹2,50,000 a year.
Is PF interest taxable?
Not on ordinary contributions. If your own PF and VPF go over ₹2,50,000 in a year, interest on the part above that is taxable. Separately, what your employer puts into PF, NPS and superannuation together is taxed as part of your salary above ₹7,50,000 a year.
How is PF and ESI worked out together?
PF is 12% of basic. ESI applies only while gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less, and is worked on gross: ₹150 from you and ₹650 from your employer on ₹20,000. Add your gross pay under More options to see both.
Why is my PF deduction different from this calculator?
Your employer may work PF on full basic or on a wider wages definition, or may not have applied the new ceiling yet (it took effect on 17 September 2026, and the calculator prices that month by day). Check your payslip’s PF line and ask HR which wages it uses. At ₹25,000 PF wages, the figure here is ₹3,000.
