Madhya Pradesh sets professional tax by your income for the year, not your monthly pay. The yearly amount is split over twelve months, with a different payment in March to finish the year on the exact figure.

In all, Madhya Pradesh has 3 paying bands above a nil band (up to ₹18,750). The tax is a fixed amount for the band you are in, not a percentage of your pay, so a raise inside a band changes nothing and a raise across a band changes it by one step.

The ladder compares each band’s yearly tax with the ₹2,500 legal limit. A salary at the top band pays the most Madhya Pradesh allows.

Look for a line called “Professional tax”, “PT” or “Prof. tax” among the deductions. It sits beside provident fund and income tax, and it is subtracted from your gross pay before the amount that reaches your bank.

If the amount differs from the figure here, your employer may be using an older slab or a different salary figure: ask payroll which gross pay it applies the slab to.
